One hundred of these graphite drawings were made from notes and sketches written and executed over a one year period during sporadic stays (70 days in total) in a 100 year old house in the village of Fox River, Nova Scotia, overlooking the Bay of Fundy. As much as possible I wanted to use symbols, especially for weather and night skies which were a large part of my spending so much time out there, as a shorthand reflecting my notes and sketches. Gradually symbols couldn't suggest enough and the drawings became more landscape focussed . What attracted me to spend time in the country over the seasons was being able to gaze at the stars, away from city lights, learning the intricacies of constellations, as if that would somehow improve me as a human being. I've learned to love the moon.
